About Us

Kidron Valley Ministries (KIVAM) is a Christian, rural based community organization situated at Naminya village, Jinja – Njeru Kayunga road in Buikwe District, Uganda - East Africa. The Organization was founded in the year 2000 after reflecting on poverty situation affecting the rural communities. Poverty in this community was mainly due to HIV/AIDs scourge at that time, however, today it is caused by unemployment, population increase and land fragmentation; factors that affect people’s livelihood.

Kidron Valley Ministries is multifaceted, we run, Kidron Children's Home, Kidron Christian Primary School, Kidron Health Center and Kidron Kindergaten plus other community livelihood development programs.

OUR HISTORY

The birth of Kidron Valley Ministries was not planned, but the founders had compassion and zeal to create a lasting change in their community. In 1997, something absurd happened in Naminya village; a family lost both parents to HIV/AIDs within a month which left their four young children with no one to fend for them. Mr. Shiundu Mukuya John together with his wife Barbra Shiundu (the founders), offered to take these children under their wings. Two months after this incidence, two children under two years of age were dropped at their Church entrance which they also took in. However, the number of abandoned children kept increasing which inspired them to set up an orphanage.

The orphanage presented with many challenges especially in the area of health, nutrition and education. These challenges pushed us to set up a clinic (which has now turned into a health center); farmlands (for keeping livestock and growing crops) so as to sustainably feed the growing family and Kidron Christian Primary school to support children from the orphanage and the vulnerable children from the communities.

As time went on, we realized that some children had no interest to advance beyond primary level while those who had, due to the big numbers and limited resources, we couldn’t push all of them ahead. We as such conceived the idea of setting up a vocational skilling center to solve this dilemma while at same time enabling sustainable livelihood development in the community. We currently provide vocational skills in tailoring and design, metal fabrication, carpentry, hair dressing and makeup, poultry keeping and fish farming.

Currently what started as a sickbay has morphed into a health center partly supported by ministry of health in the area of providing vaccines. Kidron Health Center is now a fully fledged community hospital which provides several services such as family planning, health education, antenatal / postnatal care, immunization, blood donation campaigns, and medical camps among others.

Kidron Valley Ministries has from time set up programs to respond to different community needs which enhance their livelihood. For instance, in our safe water program: we repair broken bore holes, establish water reservoirs with tap water facility near bore holes to ease water access by the community and we also promote rainwater harvesting by donating and installing water tanks on selected houses in communities. We also have in place climate change initiatives and vocational skills development.

The need is enormous, consider making a donation, See details here
